Obsess much?

Do you know the official definition of obsession?

a persistant idea or impulse that continually forces its way into consciousness, often associated with anxiety and mental illness
2. a persistent preoccupation, idea or feeling.

Truth box: my obsession. Facebook/social networking.
It is fully my obsession that causes anxiety and, yes, mental illness. It has become unhealthy for all of us in our household. No one likes a momma that continuously has her phone stuck in her hand checking the latest "up to do's", see who said what about that, what was commented on that picture, ect.
Since we moved and are starting over in many areas in our lives, individually and as a whole, this is my start over.
We have both agreed and will make a effort to eliminate social media within our day. I will focus more on the kids and the house, Josh will focus more on us when he gets home.
We had a trial of said "less social media" while we were on leave and WOW what a difference! I'm so in love with my non facebook/social media days.

I am so looking forward to just writing the occasional blog about our "up to do's" mixed with some pictures of our Germany adventures and only signing into THAT website periodically.

  1. It's funny, the husband and I discussed this the other day. When we get back to the states, I will no longer have a phone with internet access. Just plan ol' call and text. It is an obsession.

    1. We debated no smart phones as well, but we compromised as we are still overseas. We use a handful of texting services on our iphones to keep in touch with family and friends located in the UK and Austrailia. Plus Blogger came out with a nifty app that I can blog and upload from my phone.
If we were stateside I wouldn't have gotten a smartphone and just would have paid for an international texting. Nontheless, FB didn't make it on to my phone, nor did all the "time consuming" other media's on Josh's.

  2. Hi Beck - it's funny to me too because I was just thinking, "That cousin of mine has SO many great friends! Like, look how she posts on Facebook and gets a flurry of likes and comments immediately!" But truth be told, it's like they used to gotta SEND a letter to GET a letter. I agree it can be a huge time sink and a bit of a mind game to constantly be looking for a fix there. Sometimes I don't think it's worth the effort but once in a while a friend will write that they really enjoy our updates and I enjoy knowing that they're staying in our lives from far away too. All about balance, like everything, huh? Okay, I'm going to go do some laundry in the bathtub now. LOL...

    1. Love that you are doing laundry in the bathtub. I am very interested in your travels. :-)
It is about balance and I don't know where mine is, which is why I'm cutting a lot of it out. We will still stay on FB and others, Just not as much as we were, that way we are still connected for those back home but keeping my sanity at the same time. lol.

  3. good for you! i struggle with this too. looking forward to being less bored in our house. less time to fb!

    1. I'm so excited for your house! I will be in it one day, no doubt!
